Which Life Insurers Can You Compare Through JIC Insurance?

As at 12 August 2026, JIC Insurance's current comparison panel includes NEOS, Encompass, Futura, Zurich, OnePath, MetLife, Acenda, AIA and TAL. Across these panel brands, JIC Insurance can compare available options for Life Cover, Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Cover, Trauma or Critical Illness Cover, and Income Protection Insurance.

This is a panel comparison, not a whole-of-market comparison. JIC Insurance does not compare every insurer in Australia or every product offered by each panel brand. The products shown to an individual can also depend on age, occupation, cover type, cover amount, ownership, income and other eligibility criteria. A quote remains subject to the insurer's application and underwriting process.

The current JIC Insurance insurer panel

Panel last reviewed: 12 August 2026. Panel composition, product access and quote availability may change. The live comparison tool should be treated as the current source for what is available through JIC Insurance at the time you compare.

For simplicity, this article uses the term insurer panel to describe the insurer and product brands presented through the JIC comparison process. The legal issuer of a policy may differ from its consumer-facing brand. The relevant Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) identifies the issuer and contains the policy terms.

Which cover types are available from each panel insurer?

Other optional benefits may exist, but inclusion in an insurer's PDS does not confirm availability through JIC Insurance.

Why access to several life insurers matters

Life insurers do not all assess or price the same risk in the same way. Each insurer manages its own portfolio, claims experience, reinsurance arrangements, product design and underwriting rules. That can produce different pricing or terms for people who appear similar on the surface.

Founder insight: insurer appetite can differ

Every insurer is managing a book of risk, and that book is never identical to another insurer's. If an insurer already has substantial exposure to a group such as doctors or people aged 50 to 55, its appetite, pricing or underwriting settings for more of that group may differ. Another insurer may be seeking more exposure in that segment and could offer more favourable pricing or terms. That is why access to several insurers matters.
- Alex Jorgensen, Founder of JIC

This does not mean one insurer will always be more favourable for a profession or age group, or that an indicative quote guarantees final terms. Insurer appetite can change and underwriting is individual. It does mean that a single-insurer quote may not show the range of options potentially available through a broader panel.

Does availability depend on age, occupation, cover type or eligibility?

Yes. An insurer appearing on the JIC Insurance panel does not mean every applicant can obtain every cover type from that insurer. Availability commonly depends on the following.

Age and the cover being compared

Insurers set entry ages and expiry ages by product and cover type. Life Cover may remain available at ages where a particular Trauma or Income Protection option is no longer open to new applicants. Waiting periods, benefit periods and optional features can have their own age rules. These settings can also change when a PDS is updated.

Occupation and work duties

Occupation can affect price, available TPD definitions, Income Protection benefit periods and whether certain covers can be quoted at all. The job title alone may not be enough: insurers can consider actual duties, hours worked, manual work, travel, height exposure, hazardous activities and employment status. Some options may be available to an office-based professional but unavailable or priced differently for a higher-risk manual occupation.

Cover type and policy structure

Availability can change according to whether cover is standalone or linked, held personally or through superannuation, and which definition or benefit design is selected. For example, Trauma Cover is generally held outside super, while some Life, TPD and Income Protection structures may be available through super. The available TPD definition and Income Protection waiting or benefit period may also differ by insurer and occupation.

Cover amount, income and financial eligibility

Each insurer applies minimum and maximum cover limits. Larger Life, TPD or Trauma amounts can require financial evidence. Income Protection is linked to eligible income and may require evidence of earnings, particularly for higher monthly benefits, variable income, self-employment or business ownership. A requested amount may therefore be unavailable even when a lower amount can be quoted.

Health, lifestyle, residency and underwriting

The online quote uses basic rating and eligibility information. Final availability depends on the application and underwriting, which may consider health history, medications, family medical history, smoking, hazardous pursuits, travel, residency and previous insurance outcomes. The insurer may offer standard terms, a premium loading, an exclusion, amended cover, a deferral or no cover.

MoneySmart notes that insurers commonly set premiums using factors such as age, health, job and lifestyle. The relevant insurer PDS, Target Market Determination and underwriting decision ultimately control whether cover is available and on what terms.

How the JIC comparison tool filters the panel

Researching every entry-age limit, occupation rule, sum-insured limit and product condition across multiple PDS documents would be time-consuming. The JIC Insurance tool uses the details and selections entered to filter the products that can be quoted under those initial criteria.

  1. Select the cover type and amount you want to compare.
  2. Choose available options such as ownership, premium structure, TPD definition, or Income Protection waiting and benefit periods.
  3. Enter basic details including date of birth, smoking status, occupation and employment information.
  4. Review the panel products the tool identifies as available for that quote configuration.
  5. If you proceed, complete the insurer's application so underwriting can determine the final premium and terms.
  6. the cover type and sum insured
  7. the policy definition and insured events
  8. exclusions, limitations and waiting periods
  9. whether cover is linked or standalone
  10. ownership inside or outside super
  11. the premium structure and how cost may change
  12. optional benefits included or excluded
  13. the relevant PDS, Target Market Determination and Financial Services Guide
  14. whether the quoted product remains available after underwriting

The filter is useful, but it is not an approval decision. A product appearing in the results means it can be quoted using the information entered; it does not mean the insurer has accepted the application. A product may also be absent because of the selected settings rather than because the insurer never offers that type of cover.

Does JIC Insurance compare every product from these insurers?

No. Inclusion of an insurer or brand on the panel does not mean JIC Insurance distributes or compares every product, legacy policy, direct product, group insurance arrangement, optional benefit or ownership structure offered under that name. At times, a panel product or insurer may not be available through the tool, or may not be offered for the details entered.

This distinction matters because panel comparison and whole-of-market comparison are not the same. JIC Insurance compares its available panel. If you want to investigate a product or provider outside that panel, you may need to approach that provider or another service separately.

What should you compare after seeing the panel results?

A useful comparison should go beyond identifying the lowest first-year premium. Where possible, compare options using equivalent inputs and then review:

JIC Insurance can provide general advice and comparison support. It does not recommend that a particular insurer, product, cover amount or ownership structure is the best option for your personal circumstances.

When might personal financial advice be useful?

The right level and structure of insurance can depend on your income, debts, family, dependants, superannuation, existing cover, tax position and long-term goals. That is as far as a general information article can go without becoming personal financial advice.

If you want a tailored recommendation about how much cover to hold, whether cover should sit inside or outside super, or how insurance fits into a broader financial plan, you can speak with a JIC financial adviser. JIC Wealth provides personal advice as an ongoing advice relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Which life insurers can I compare through JIC Insurance?

As at 12 August 2026, the current panel brands are NEOS, Encompass, Futura, Zurich, OnePath, MetLife, Acenda, AIA and TAL. The panel may change, so check the live quote tool for current availability.

What types of insurance can I compare?

JIC Insurance can compare available Life Cover, TPD Cover, Trauma or Critical Illness Cover, and Income Protection Insurance options from its panel. The insurer may use a different product name for the same broad cover category.

Does JIC Insurance compare every Australian life insurer?

No. JIC Insurance compares a panel of insurer and product brands. It does not compare every insurer, brand or product in Australia and should not be described as a whole-of-market service.

Does every panel insurer appear in every quote?

No. Products can be filtered according to age, occupation, cover type, amount, income, ownership, product options and other initial eligibility rules. Product access can also change over time.

If an insurer appears in my results, am I approved?

No. The result is an indicative quote based on the details entered. The insurer must assess the full application through underwriting before it confirms the premium, exclusions and policy terms.

Why can premiums differ between insurers?

Insurers use their own pricing, underwriting, claims experience, reinsurance arrangements and product settings. Age, health, job, lifestyle, smoking status, cover amount and selected features can also affect the quote.
